Faded candles

by Bron
Hello, my question concerns this set of lovely expensive candles I bought about a year ago. They were such a lovely bright lime green but as it often happens they have faded now to this insipid yellow color. Is there a way I could coat the candles in lime green wax to bring them back to life so to speak. I don't mind if the black stripe doesn't show but just wondering how to improve the color again.

I don't know if it will bring the color back but an antique tip: Use real butter and a soft cloth to buff them. A small amount and a thin coat should help. At the least, it won't harm them.

After you've tried the butter use a kitchen oil just like the butter!

Buy craft acylic paint in the shade you want and paint those areas. It works real well. People paint the outsides of candles and sell them.

my first thought was decoupage... but it would change the look entirely. You could cover it anyway you like. There are lots of tutorials online for doing candles.

If you could find the right color of wax, you could melt it and dip the candles in it a few times to coat over the old wax.

I would go with the idea LIz suggested, but would add a green crayon to ordinary white wax and dip away.

I do make candles. You can find actual candle paint on the internet..or.. You could melt them in a pan on low heat, swirl the colors (save the wicks if you ever plan on burning them). and pour the wax into a comparable sized vegetable can like from corn, greenbeans, etc. Wrap the end of the wick around a pencil so it doesn't fall in the can and dip back into the candle wax and wait until candle is hard. You can put them in the frig. to speed up hardening process. When cold, the candle will slide out easily. If you want to change the color of the candle..After candle is melted, add small pieces of crayon (these are made primarily of wax) until it is the color you want.If you want your candle to have a certain fragrance, add a couple of drops of fragranceoil when melted. Note: You can pour hot candle wax into almost any container. I've used old Christmas tree ornaments and they make beautiful, round ones.

Thank you for that. It will be a fun project. I have looked at buying another set but don't want to pay the cost.

Your welcome! Melt the wax on a low setting. To get leftover wax out of your pan, just put it in the freezer for 10min. and will will just pull off easily.
