These sculptural, artsy plants have an edgy feel and definitely aren't delicate so no need to tiptoe around them.
I've loved these tough yet attractive ferns ever since I saw a small 1 in a hanging pot in a greenhouse at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden many, many moons ago. These sculptural, artsy plants have an edgy feel and definitely aren't delicate so no need to tiptoe around them. Despite the confusing fact that this evergreen perennial has 2 common names, Myers or Foxtail Fern, it's very easy and not at all confusing to care for.

I learned this plant as Myers Fern. If you prefer to call it Foxtail Fern, it's all good. Regardless of what you call it, here I am in my back yard taking care:
Here are some tidbits I've learned along the way about the Myers Fern & want to share with you:
Oh the shape - this delightful fern loves to spread & twist!
I love the color of this fern, plus, it looks great year round.

Susanne Lynch on Apr 10, 2016I have had one of these for a year or two in a large pot. I recently bought another one to keep it company and I noticed the older one definitely has a lighter color than the new healthy one. Not enough water? Not enough light? Too much light? I'm in Alameda, btw.

Joy Us garden on Apr 11, 2016@Susanne Lynch I lived in SF for almost 20 years & worked at a nursery in Berkeley so I know right where you are. The root system for these ferns is pretty intense & vigorous so my guess would be not enough water. Depending on the pot size, they could be crowding each other out & not getting enough water. Regarding the light, they like bright shade or morning light. No all day sun. Happy Bay Area gardening! Nell

When mine get too much light, they turn yellowish green.
