Repurposing a vintage sewing bench into a blanket storage footstool.

I found an old (1960's?) sewing bench at the flea market and knowing that my husband really needed a footstool since he can't tolerate his recliner anymore; I decided to rebuild the bench ...»
into a footstool with storage for his blanket, pillow and heating pad.

Hummingbird Visitors

We watched Hummingbird Wars last night as eight hummingbirds chashed each other around and around the dead tree that hold my feeders. It was hysterical and the hubby got some photo's and ...»
a video....but I'm going to try and get a better video because by the time he started filming it was getting dark and several of them had left.

Debbie N I put the Vicks on the ...»
Hanging cord that is attached to the top of the feeder... That is the only place I use the Vicks now that I have them hanging from a hook on a tree limb. But Before when I had them on the shepherds hook, I also put some on the pole and although it stopped most of them, it never stopped ALL of them...

  • The first one....really just a guitar shaped "pillow case" but had to leave it loose enough for easy on/off and tight enough that it would still hang in the bracket.
  • Hanging back up in the shed...both guitars...

Homemade Guitar Bags

When our son went to college, my husband RE-claimed the work shed as, ummm well a WORK shed. That meant the valuable music gear our teen had mowed yards, and worked to purchase, was in ...»
danger of being ruined by hubby's activities. One day I walked out to see grinding dust covering one of the guitars and decided they needed protection.. so I bought some Vinyl tablecloth fabric that was lined with felt and made "custom" guitar bags.

Water Lillies

When I took down my pond in the spring because a tree root had come up through the liner, I wanted to save my water lillies. So I bought a plastic tub the size of a 1/2 Whisky Barrel and ...»
carefully seperated the roots and put them in it and filled it with water. In June they bloomed, full sized leaves and full sized blooms...but since that time, the leaves have "Miniaturized" and are now all the size of a quarter or a 50 cent piece...I obviously was surprised at how quickly they "adapted" their size to accomodate the smaller growing conditions and as one of the landscapers that I so respect said, "in effect it is sort of a bonzi water lilly". So I had promised a picture of this years leaves and blooms, in the barrel...but full sized...and Now the real test will be to see if I get Miniature "blooms" in next years growth...it may be a long winter, but I love a good mystery...so it'll be worth the wait to find out...

Front Porch Bench Makeover

The Bench we keep on the front porch broke a board...and realistically we've been working on the house itself, so I didn't realize just how shabby it had gotten until I looked at the ...»
photos I took before and after. Well that said I re-finished the Bench and am sure happy with the new look.

  • The shows the back, I cut out "tools" from newspaper and laid them on as stencils in order to make it look as though he should hang his tools in these spots. 1
  • I put the "bins" underneath to give him a place to store his "cars" etc that might need to be "worked" on unti he got to them....
  • This is a close up of the top, four layers of paint, the "modge podge transfer" and two layers of Krylon Clear should keep it easy to wipe clean

  • In the Beginning we had a fern basket
  • Painted the "eyeballs" and added them along with beads for decoration
  • Used a Tuna can and the lid off a "Cookie" tin to make a fixture for the globe
  • Found the globe at the GW for 1.99
  • Lit up
  • In addition to "drilling" the cans to accomodate the Light hardware and wiring, I also drilled around the bottom edge of the rim to allow the heat of the bulb to escape.
