at the moment is to use hang jewelry on them, but I'm not sure they wouldn't get tangled in the hinge.

  • Pillow. Hand stitched needlepoint.
  • Geometric shapes. Wall-hanging. Needlepoint.
  • Mom did this from building the frame, stretching the canvas, to painting.
  • Hand painted vase.
  • Hand painted vase.
  • Two (approx) 5"x5" framed paintings.
  • Not a "match", but Mom needlepointed the chair seat and the pillow.
  • Looking inside her cabinet that displayed a few of the 12 China plates she painted & fired in her kiln. Also painted the blue/gold vase. Others items were bought.
  • Close-up of one of the China plates Mom painted.
  • I saw her draw this over a few days -in pen- while she talked at her home desk on the phone! Truly amazing. Done free hand without a design or picture to go by.
  • Needlepoint wall-hanging. Sorry not all of it is shown!

My Dear Mother's Artwork & Sewing

My mother passed away in February 2008, but over her lifetime she was very prolific artistically. She favored Oriental styles, but also painted & sewed many other things. Hope you enjoy & might be inspired by the few pieces I show here :)

  • An empty Parmesan cheese container makes the perfect container for homemade carpet powder.
  • Just 2 ingredients - stir them up together & you're good to go!
  • Just sprinkle it on the carpet, let it sit for a few minutes, and vacuum it all up.

Homemade Carpet Powder

Carpet powder is one product that I can't do without. Even though it is a reasonable price, I buy so much of it that it works out to be pretty expensive. Plus, it doesn't always work as ...»
well as I like.

Homemade carpet powder to the rescue!! It's cheap to make & it has not met an odor that it doesn't take care of. And I have 8 indoor animals - I should know!

You only need 2 ingredients to prepare a batch. Check out the link for the simple tutorial.

  • My inspiration from http://husetvedfjorden.blogspot.com/. Floor to ceiling bead board with open shelves. Painted white
  • This is my kitchen. The wall on the left will be bead board with shelves on center section. Should I paint the right wall or continue with bead board? 1

Walls & Ceilings: Should we bead board on one wall or two? I would love your opinion!

We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and I would love some advise. I fell in love with this photo and will be doing a version of floor to ceiling bead board with shelves on the ...»
left wall of our kitchen. Should I also put bead board on the right wall? Or should I paint it? Will having two walls of bead board be too much? (Take away from the "statement wall"?) Or since the right wall is so minimal and mostly hidden by the fridge, doesn't really matter?

I'm with Kelle and would do just one wall in bead board, but it would look nice either way.

Furniture: help with a chair

I recently picked up a couple thrift store wooden chairs for indoors. They are not the kind with padded seats. I want to pad the seats! I have no idea how.

  • This meetup was a fundraiser to purchase mosquito nets in Africa to help reduce the spread of malaria. It was a life saving cause I was very privileged to be a part of.
  • My part was to host a demo table talking about junk in the garden. Here is a sample I threw together with a burlap sandbag.
  • My sweet little sidekick Teddy helped me prepare some junky toolboxes. Tip: add some rocks, sticks and moss to help enhance your planter boxes. The smallest details add the biggest impact! 1
  • We're here! Everyone learned about the helpful Hometalk community. Isn't it cool you don't require having a blog in order to share here? I sure think so!
  • My table was loaded with junk and plants and a burlap bean sack tablecloth. Let the demo begin!
  • Neighbour Torrie helped to junk up some small kettle planters. Spanish moss was used to cover the soil. They were so cute!
  • Here's how they looked once I set them in the garden... http://www.hometalk.com/1359436/when-old-kettles-turn-into-rock-gardens 1
  • The event was totally sold right out with approx 50 gals in attendance!
  • We even had an African missionary among us! Brenda Tjosvold spoke to us about her 30 years as an African missionary. Her speech was absolutely riveting and had us in stitches for most of the night!
  • There was even African shopping opportunities! Each table was geared to directly help African artists. The craftsmanship was outstanding.
  • This was a dessert event so we had the tastiest treats, decked out in African style. The place was filled with pattern, plants candles and all things Africa. Gorgeous!
  • Go Janice! This gal is an artist and had brainstorm after brainstorm so I loaded her up... I can't wait to see what she creates. :)
  • Hometalk provided the guests with a little challenge of sorts... each were given a rolled up sandbag to encourage creativity. Let's cross our fingers we can show a few creations on Hometalk. Coming soon!
  • The sandbags got a little special branding for the event. Visit the prep of the sandbags at: http://www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/2013/04/a-little-burlap-sandbag-encouragement.html
  • And drumroll...the event purchased 120+ mosquito nets! Hurray!! https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/TicketingCatalog.aspx?EventID=89272&LangPref=en-CA&Referrer=https%3a%2f%2fsecure.e2rm.com%2fregistrant%2fsessionExpired.aspx%3feID%3d892
