Propagating Shrubs from Cuttings

Summer is the perfect time to propagate cuttings from your favorite rose, azalea or hydrangea.

Since it takes several steps, I found this excellent pictorial article describing the ...»

whole process. http://www.finegardening.com/how-to/articles...

The photos are of my own propagation chambers.

  • "Polatems" (Pots, plates, totems) My husband always says "What will she think of next"! 30

"Polatems" (pots, plates, totems) birdbaths, bird feeders and planters.

I had so much fun putting my "Polatems" together. I collected beautiful pots and plates from Goodwill and garage sales. I dug a hole 12" deep intserted a piece of rebar, which can be purchased at a hardware store in any length of your choice. Fill the hole with concrete. Level the rebar to make it straight. Once the concrete dries..overnight is good, start putting the pots and plates onto the rebar in an artistic order, gluing them as you go..I used glass glue from the hardware ...»
store, it comes in a caulking tube. Use a level to keep each pot or plate straight. You can add pieces in the middle such as a metal dish from an old firepit as a planter or even a terricotta planter. Just be creative. Top it off with a glass ball, a ceramic bird or whatever suits you fancy. There you have it ...Enjoy and watch the birds..even the Hummers like the colors.

Gardening: A friend sent a post from another site about killing weeds with vinegar. I'm posting the pix and part of the text from

that. This result happened in only one day. I brushed Roundup on some liriope volunteers over two weeks ago and they're just now puny and can be easily pulled out of the ground, but none are truly DEAD like in this photo. Will this be safe, do you think, if I put it on liriope volunteers and other weeds in my front yard? The yard has tree mulch, no grass, but lots of hostas, some hellebores, ferns, azaleas and other things. Guess I'd need to spray directly onto the potential victims, or brush it on with a sponge brush?

you will need to add salt to your 1 gallon of vinegar for it to be effective. also about 1 tsp ...»
of dish soap to help the mix stick to the plant. It may take a couple of applications before you get the desired results.

Microbath makeover

We recently remodeled a very small "microbath" in an older home. This included a full gut of the space. Due to the door swing constraints, we opted to install a Rohl "Allia" wall mount ...»
hand sink. It turned out really nice with the wallpaper and fixtures.

Barbara, I also have textured walls.. I am slowly skimming them to smooth them out so that I ...»
can paint them. I'm afraid no matter how good a job I do the wall paper might show even the slightest imperfection.

Gardening: Does anyone know what this is

Ordered this "cherry hedge" from an online source. This arrived today. Looks nothing like the picture on their website. Truly disappointed!

If you check your catalogs and online order forms you will see that they state that you will ...»
get bare root/dormant plants approximately 2-3 feet tall. The only time I have ever had a problem with any plants I ordered on line is when I never got them planted in a timely manner.
