The following year, I added another 2x4, to make the raised bed deeper. A layer of grass clippings about four inches deep and mounding over the top, kept the weeds out.
Whatever cheap compost is available is layered on top of the grass before the next crop. This is the same year. This is actually the crop before the peppers. We grew five varieties of alliums including shallots, leeks, red, yellow and white onions!
Leeks! A great cool weather crop!
Onions from the raised bed.
Some zinnias volunteered too. They were in the same bed two years ago. We rotated the bed into lettuce that winter.
Bell peppers for days. And nights. And weeks. And months. So many peppers... The branches break off sometimes from the weight of the fruit.! Bell peppers don't can or freeze well, so if we don't use them right away, we dehydrate them.
