Cleaning Silver Jewelry

I have a confession to make. I let my silver jewelry tarnish. With moving, settling in in Alaska and raising a three year old, I had left my silver in a travel case for months. I opened it to wear a piece and yuck it was tarnished.
The first thing I did was call my mom. My mom knows everything or she has me fooled. She probably had pinterest open and searched it and told me how to do it. Wink wink.
Here is what she told me about cleaning silver Jewelry. Get out a glass baking dish, line it with foil. Put some water on to boil in your tea pot. While the water is warming....

If you put turquoise or othe soft stones in the solution they will become chalky. and lose their luster!

Cheri is right. If the jewelry is entirely silver, then that technique probably works but if the jewelry has inlaid gemstones, etc. you're asking for trouble!
