How To Beautify a Boring Builder Grade Bathroom

I have been on a quest to make my builder grade home not look like a builder grade home. This week's room is the master bathroom. And it took some work to get this room updated!
This is what I started with...lots of large blank beige walls.
And builder grade cabinets, countertop and faucets.
First step...paint the walls blue and add some white wainscot.
Next step...upgrade the lighting. I love chandeliers and candles so I had to have one in the bathroom!
Third step...paint the vanity white, and change out the countertop. It is wood but finished with boat-builder varnish and is completely waterproof (no sealing required).

I also replaced the one large builder-grade mirror with individual mirrors that are a little more interesting.
Step 4: Replace the faucets and sinks...I was very lucky to get the faucets on clearance so I ended up not spending as much money on that as I thought I would.
Last step: Add some accessories. The blue and white garden stool is a perfect seat that doesn't take up much room.
The finished tub area doesn't look like a boring blank wall any more!
And the vanity area has a little more pizzazz, too.

Maybe someone already asked this, but did you paint the plaid ceiling or is it wallpaper? I love it! If it's paint, was it complicated?
