DIY Polyhedron Prism Lamp

I must admit geometry was the only math I was any good at, but I did have to do a bit of research to pull out that title. I wanted to call it an octagonal prism, but clearly it's not uniform in shape, so that didn't work. Either way, this lamp is anything but square!
But I can't take all the credit for this awesome creation. Leave it to a modern-minded teenager to push me to create such a thing as a "Polyhedron Prism Lamp."

She came to me months ago with this lamp from West Elm as inspiration, along with 2 scraps of wood we hoarded kept from the building of our pergola at our previous home and said, "Mom, can you make me one of these?"

Interestingly enough, I found a very similar lamp at Target this fall. It was priced at a whopping $39.99!! If you have the right tools and a few basic supplies it will likely only cost you the price of the light kit. For me, that was $10.
These were the rejects. My rejected attempts. Like most of my projects, I learn as i go and found it was best to drill the hole for the lamp socket first.
Safety first my friends. Be sure to clamp your wood tightly before drilling the hole. You use a Forstner bit to drill the hole and it is quite sharp and forces the wood to spin if it is not clamped tightly.
After the hole is drilled it's time to begin making your angled cuts. (I give more specific angle information in the blog post.)
After the cuts are made, a quick finish and an easy assembly are all that is left.
