Having a hard time using fishing net around this picture

Janet Pizaro on Sep 28, 2015I would enhance the net around the whole picture. Try twisting the net like you would with ribbon and see if that works.Helpful Reply

Z on Sep 28, 2015Liz, is doesn't look bad by what I can see, but you didn't take the picture back far enough for us to see the whole thing. Could share a picture taken further back so I can see the whole of the netting around the neat fish picture and more of the surrounding area please?Helpful Reply

Gail Sisson on Sep 28, 2015Yes maybe a darker net would look better but what about putting more net on the front and attaching it with fishing lures and making a mini fishing line with toothpicks and hanging that on the front as well . Look forward to seeing the finished picHelpful Reply

Grandmasue10 on Sep 28, 2015How about dying your light colored net with strong, cold coffee? Or there's always the kind everyone uses over the counter.Helpful Reply

Margaret on Sep 29, 2015Agree---a pic from farther away would be better for us to get an idea to as to "balance" the area... If your net is not nylon, then just soak in heavy liquid coffee or tea (I've used the tea). To "balance" the net and pic, it'd be a great idea to hang the net with something in re: to fishing ideas!!! Possibly not using just nails, etc... This way it will bring your eye up to the "unusual" knobs holding the net, all the way to below the pic! There are SO many great pieces of fishing eqp tthan you can use to either glue over your nails, or purchase fishing eqpt type knobs that they already sell. We did the fishing theme in my son's spare bathroom and it came out so rich looking and nice !!! Good luck !!Helpful Reply

Lainey Howell on Sep 29, 2015I would get the darker net and get enough to make a large square. Hang the picture over the net. Let the net droop from the top corners and decorate them with appropriate accessories.Helpful Reply

Laura on Sep 29, 2015Sounds crazy, but I love color...that net would be a darker blue, to bring out some accents of the picture & make the net pop more. It seems to get kind of lost in all the browns... Just my opinion though, everyone has their own likes, etc., I'm sure whatever you decide will look awesome!Helpful Reply

Margaret on Sep 30, 2015Just thought of another idea that we used that you may consider --- depending on the room this pic is in, or its location (above a fireplace??, on am empty big wall ??, etc...)...... You could hand a piece of driftwood at the top, and let net hang from it--- or you can hang a small antique rod above it (horizontally) and the net can be draped from it .... Both idea are the same technique they use with "shelf hangers" for hanging pictures, etc ... Good luck !!Helpful Reply

Amy Ellis @ StowandTellU on Sep 30, 2015Have you considered keeping the netting all in front rather than letting some of it go down the back side too? Also if you google a few images of "how to drape fish netting", I'm see several that seem to hang from points, like they put a few nails in the wall and then draped some from each nail. Good luck. My husband would love a little area like this in our house :)Helpful Reply

Duv310660 on Oct 01, 2015In general terms, the fish are moving out to the right and up. They are the focus, the net is only a supporting detail. Whether on a mantel or a piece of driftwood, the net needs to rest on that place, and can come up on the left ONLY. Not on top. Not on the right. The subtext here is not "The NET sank down and caught the fish". It is "the lurking FISH moved up and out of the net towards open water".Helpful Reply

Duv310660 on Oct 05, 2015Well, people closest to me, namely me and my psychiatrist, say I am guilty of over-intellectualizing everything. This is a habit born of necessity, having worked as an artist in a male-dominated field for over 30 years - I always had to be ready to promote and justify my work; rarely would it sell for just being what it was. By standard measures, I was successful, but it sure never felt that way! I envy people who can just throw a net over something and form an opinion about whether they like it or not. BUT, one way or another, we all work with what we got, and the beauty of it is, the only opinion that matters is your own.Helpful Reply
