A hint for both homeowners and contractors-any time you pour a concrete sidewalk or driveway, make sure to run a sleeve

of pvc pipe underneath in case you ever want to add nightlighting, irrigation, etc...on this project yesterday the homeowner had mentioned adding lights in the future-so we put a 3/4 sleeve for wire to go through..on driveways it is a good idea to put up to a 4" sleeve for irrigation pipes and wire.

Such a good tip. I made sure to have my contractor put in something just like that when I put in a terrace.

Very critical step! Just like we often pre-wire & add conduit to run wires through to a remodeled room for future speakers, mounting flat screen tv's etc. it's so smart to do the same for your home's exterior!!

Thanks for that heads up. It's all under the heading of masterplanning. Ideas like that point out the need to really think projects through and consider what you might want your landscape to be in the future. It's also great forward thinking if you're working under a tight budget and want to do things in phases.

I had conduit run under the pavers when I remodeled and had wirings pulled in my home for potential security systems and speakers for later phases. I even had TV connections placed on opposite walls when the electricians asked where they wanted cable located because while today we may want the bed in one place, in the future somone may want it on the opposite wall.

Excellent tip there. I've had to tunnel under enough driveways and sidewalks to know this could be a real time and money saver!

Pro Landscape Lighting pros have special tools to "pop" a sidewalk in less than 15 minutes. For the DIY'er, this is a great idea. Apart from keeping it clean and capped, mark the edges of the concrete so you know from above EXACTLY where this is buried...

I've not done many projects if concrete, but for those I've done, I've looked back and said... I should have done this or added that or allowed for ______ (fill in the blank) .

In our eagerness to "get 'er done, we DIY guys sometimes don't think ahead of our zeal! THANKS, Landscape Guy!
