There are a large variety of paints available for laminate countertops. You can use a granite finish on them to give it an updated like. Once that is complete I would give the cabinets a makeover and accessorize with your other ideas.

There's always the wood option too. You would have to lift the sink out and then run wood over it and then use a marine grade sealant before setting the sink back in. But palette wood or barn wood would be just lovely

You can do a lot of things. My husband did ours in tile that came out really nice. Should be able to lay it on top of laminate or remove it. I just read an article about doing the counter in wood, stain and polyuerathane it. I am going to try that on mine. I can stain it any color I want and it looked pretty easy to do. I am not partial to stainless steel sinks and I think it would look great with a farmers sink. (IKEA has a real nice one for a reasonable price).

I used Krylon stone finish spray paint. Looks great! Comes in lots of colors and so far has lasted over 9 months.

No prep except make sure it is squeaky clean! No oil or dirt. You do not have to sand or seal once it is dried. I did this one morning and waited until to next day to put things back. I just wanted to make sure it was extra dry. Do thin even coat and then go over any areas that look like the beige is showing thru. I only did one coat and it looks great!

I would use pallet wood of different colors. If you ant to stain it that's ok too. then put a couple of coats of "spar Varnish" on it and you are good to go. Spar varnish is what is used on boats. Hope this helps.

Check out Ardex feather light concrete mix. I've seen some gorgeous laminate that was coated in it. Looks exactly like cement counters.

Giani granite and Rustoleum's counter top paint are both products that I've used with success. Giani for my kitchen and Rustoleum for the bathroom. I've recently seen a new product to resurface countertops in concrete, but haven't tried it yet. Look into any of these. There are you tube videos on almost everything.
