Once a month I use vinegar & baking soda to clean out our drains. It works great! I pour about 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain, followed by about a cup of vinegar ( I've never really measured it-lol). I then put a plastic bag over the drain & put the strainer in to keep everything in. It fizzes a lot. After about 20-30 minutes I rinse the drain with hot water from the faucet. My Grandma swore by this & I must admit , we've never had any issues at all with our pipes. I do this in the kitchen & our bathrooms(I know hubby shaves over the sink!) added bonus is a clean smelling drain!
