Cheap counter top make over

I read that someone used Krylon Stone spray paint to redo the tops of their counters, has anyone tried this? And if so does it last, clean easily and look good?

I used it on the Formica counter top of a built in bar. The bar did not have a sink. It held up well and sticky Coke, actual brand, cleaned up easily the next day. It did not damage the finish. I did not know it had been spilled on the counter. I think the texture would be too rough on kitchen counters used every day.

@Colette not if you use a few coats of poly over it...That fills in some of the texture.

I have never tried this, however all the information on the product sounds like q quick fix. They are recommended a sealer on the paint.

I used a cheaper stone craft paint over 25 years ago. It wasn't as good quality as the Krylon, and it lasted no problem until I redid my kitchen about 6+years later. I coated it with 3 coats of polyurethane. I didn't expect it to last (everyone scoffed), and it held up. The kitchen designer said he had never seen that and was surprised that it was durable. The only thing is that water spots on it made it go white until they dried for the first few months. Just like a laminate top, I did not put a hot pot on it or use it as a chopping board. I have used Krylon Fusion with no primer or poly on bathroom and kitchen laminate counters and tile backsplashes, and they too held up wonderfully--one spot in the kitchen lost its shine but that is it. They were scrubbed and really lasted (over 12-15 years).

I did this and it worked but was boring. A year later, I used paint to create a granite look and it's fabulous. http://www.amazon.com/Giani-Granite-Slate-Countertop-Paint/dp/B00VI9RKMI

I have heard of it, but to prevent peeling and cracking, use a bonding primer, and a clear, non yellowing polyurethane. I would put no less than three coats.

I have never done this. But go to the Krylon website. They have different projects, suggestions and directions. It seems very helpful.

I used skim stone. It comes in a kit. First you roll on an adhesive, then you roll on a stone mixture, let it dry sand and seal. Everything comes in the kit and it comes in a variety of colors. Maybe it was called spread stone. My daughter and I easily did it. We are pleased with the results. I got it on sale for $90.

We used that same textured spray paint on both of our bathroom countertops, worked great! Sealed it with a marine grade varnish. My daughter came home and said it looked like granite!
