Glue residue

I need to remove the label and glue residue from prescription bottles to use on a mission project. I have boiled the bottles in soapy water and that removes the labels just fine but there is still a sticky glue residue left. What will remove this glue so the bottles are like new? Thanks for your help!

This sounds really silly but nail polish remover works to get the residue off. Lol

kimmy's right. Nail varnish remover will do It. Or you can buy a product called Stickystuff remover.

Goo Gone, works, as does steel wool, after it soaks in hot water. If it covers a large section you may have to put it back in the water to soak some more. I always just start on another one, and continue this way. A little dish soap, or some vinegar, will aid in the loosening up, of the adhesive.

Olive oil or coconut oil evenly mixed with baking soda. Remove label, rug the area with this mixture and leave overnight. It should rub off with a paper towel in the morning.

I use lighter fluid. It does not melt plastic.

Oil. Oil is the key to breaking down the glue. I oft times rub areas like your trying to remove the labels from with a cotton ball of oil, cooking, wd40, motor oil, ect. After rubbing in let it sit for a few minutes & then use the inside of an orange peel to rub off what's left of the label or what ever tape glue I'm trying to remove.

Goo Gone is the best...it doesn't leave a residue and it's not flammable. A little bit goes a long way.

When using Goo Gone, a great little tip is to place a single layer of an unfolded paper napkin over the sticky residue then saturate napkin with Goo Gone. Walk away for 15 minutes and when you return, it will wipe right off. Then wash with soapy water.

you can also try gritty peanut butter or as the others have pointed out goo-gone orange oil and WD-40 One of these should work

We just cut the tape and peel the label, and for the sticky part left behind, use the sticky side of the label, it takes it right off

Peanut butter. Cover the label, leave it on overnight, then wipe off with a paper towel. Wash, rinse, dry. Cheap. Most every household had peanut butter :)

Lighter fluid works well and will not melt the container. Be sure to use it in a well ventilated area away from any open flames.

Mix baking soda & cooking oil to make a paste (it doesn't take much) rub over the container where the stickiness remains, Let sit overnight. Wash with soap & water & it comes right off.

Isopropyl alcohol aka rubbing alcohol works to break down the glue. Just rub it on with a paper towel and it will start to come off easily.

You can make a mixture of olive oil and baking soda! But it does not work as good as GooGone! It takes forever and is messy. I can't imagine a household without a bottle of GooGone!

I use OxyClean. Dilute some Oxyclean powder in some warm water, drop in the container and walk away for a while. When you come back the labels will be floating on top of the water!

I scratch the label a little and spray on Pam. Let sit an hour or so and clean off with soap and water. Works real good and not a lot of work.

Goo Gone is the best, but olive oil works well too, just takes a little more elbow grease.
