Retro Christmas Tree - Star Wars Version

My mother was convelasying at my home recently and very bored. With a 77 year old and a 3 year old it was hard to come up with things for everyone to do together but I finally came up with this. It's is a tree made with all those catalogs you get during this time of year (Reader's Digests are not so small anymore). We also used some Star Wars Macaroni and glitter. It didn't cost us a dime. If you are unfamiliar with how to make one - let me show you how!
First, take 3 catalogs that are the same height and start folding. Make the first fold by taking the top right corner and fold the top of the page straight down the middle where the binding is......see?
Then, take the right corner (it's about 2/3 down the page) and fold it down the middle flush with the binding........see how the girl with the turquoise sweater was mid-way up in the first fold and then down at the bottom after the second.
Finally, fold the "tail" left at the bottom making it turn up. How you have your first "branch". Keep folding until you are finished with 1, 2, or 3 catalogs.
See the rubber band holding the three together up top? After you paint it, you can take that away and paint over it - it will all stick together easily. The rest is the paint we used (Krylon Maxx Navy), the box of Mac N Cheese and any of the glue types you could use to glue the ornaments on with. You can use balls or nothing at all - this is just what we used.
There it is - all spay painted.
When we put the last coat of paint on, while it was still wet, we sprinkled glitter on it - make it look lovely!
This is how we spray painted the macaroni. We chose colors that would show up - asking our kids. We did Darth Vader in Red because Black just wouldn't show up.
It was fun for 3 generations to make together and incorporated 2 very old, very kitschy crafts - macaroni art and magazine folding Christmas Trees. That's all we did - hope you like it. There are lots of variations you could do. Perfect for those who are in nursing homes or a craft project with your kids.

Very nice! Do you glue together the magazins before painting?

How do you glue the magazines together? And how do you make the macaroni art? I have done all the folding but do not know how to move forward!

I used to make those with my mother back in 63 out of Readers Digest magazines for gifts. Those and resin grapes on wood designs.
