Odds are they will not make it in NC outside during the winter. Y -
I had a lemon tree and I just took it inside & put it by a sunny window when the weather became too cold. It bloomed each season and produced fruit. Last year I took it outside for a January warm up and forgot to take it back in. It died. A friend has a lime tree and puts it in the garage all winter. -
How about planting them in pots that could be outside in the warm weather and inside when cold? We are in VA and brought an orange tree back from Fl for a family member and it never had a chance. I doubt she knew much about them. Try checking with local extension dept or find a really good garden store, not like Home Depot or Lowes, and check with them. Also, there may be some Master Gardeners in your area who could help. Do you have any amusement parks in your areas or other attractions ...» -
Your citrus will not make it planted in the ground in Raleigh, Debbie, but if you have a sunny indoor location, keep them in pots and you should have success bringing them in once temperatures dip and taking them outside when things warm up in spring. Of course, as the trees grow, you're going to need an increasing amount of space. Perhaps there is an orangery in your future! -
