Adding Value to Your Kitchen on a Budget

Kitchens are the #1 room that sell a house so when we decided to put our house on the market, we chose to make a few upgrades to our kitchen to help sell our house quickly and for more money. Our countertops were a pretty ugly green laminate and while our cabinets look ok from afar, the doors and drawers were white thermafoil and were peeled and chipped.
Our kitchen "before"
Since we were selling our house, this project was on a strict budget where we were looking to get the greatest bang for our buck possible. Instead of installing new cabinets, we had them refaced which saved both time (the whole kitchen remodel was completed in one week!) and money. Our cabinet refacing company also added molding to some key spots like the back of our island/peninsula to give it a much more high-end look. Since buyers are looking for solid surface countertops like granite, we added new granite countertops too, sticking to tier 1 granite (the least expensive) to get the most return on our investment. We loved our kitchen's new, improved look!
Our kitchen "after" our budget remodel
A few other things we did are to add a stainless steel refrigerator and dishwasher (our range was already stainless). We saved money on our refrigerator by buying a floor model at a huge discount from the retail price. We also switched out the drawer and door hardware to pulls and knobs that looked more high-end but were only about $5 each.
New knobs and pulls
And the best part? After our kitchen remodel was done and we put our house on the market, we had multiple offers and sold it in four days! We definitely got back our investment in the kitchen and then some!
