We would like to use this space in the winter by insulating and adding windows. How would we install windows without losing the view?
The space is small, 12x8 with screen all around.

Maybe the cheapest way would be to install sliding glass doors... my daughter in Florida has several across a room to get the view.

Stationary doors may work for you.

What do you mean by stationary doors? Probably a silly question but I want to consider all options! Thank you!!!

Depending on your budget, folding glass walls could be an option. http://www.solarinnovations.com/folding-glass-walls/

These birch trees are stunning. So the biggest windows the best. Keep it natural. Wouldn't it be nice to have some stone work done? Good luck. Post after pics pls. I'd love to see your finished product.

Thank you! I agree ... windows, windows, windows!!! Stone work would be beautiful, the pictures don't do justice to this setting. The trees are aspen, we are on the Grand Mesa in Co.

Definitely insulate, to keep the view add removable storm windows, so that when it warms up, you can again enjoy the fresh air, and breezes. Adding a chimera, or a fire bowl, in the cooler times, to add heat.

Yes, I would love to be able to open it all up again in the summer. We are considering a heat source but first insulation. Thank you!

Hear me out. I built a shed wanting to catch winter sun as much as possible. Not wanting to buy new windows, I looked around and found I had a sliding glass door. Hummm double insulated glass, HUM HUM.... So I framed wall to size of them on their sides. LOTS of light and keeps in heat. (Worked for me)

I like this idea! We have to be resourceful so this is right up our alley!

@Lnelson9796 that's not too far if you can get a good enough deal. You may have to work your plans around the windows and doors, but it would be worth it in the money you would save. And you'd be helping another good cause. It's so rewarding helping children. God bless you!

    • Lnelson9796 Lnelson9796 on Oct 06, 2015
Not yet but I'm so encouraged and I'm sure I'll have a solution soon! At least I better, the snow is about to fly! The view is magnificent, I can't wait to enjoy the space!

I can see uses for most any thing. Growing up dirt poor I learned to think "out side the box"
  • Janet Pizaro Janet Pizaro on Oct 06, 2015
meaning they are look like sliding glass doors but you cannot open them, So in other words you have the beauty of a sliding glass door for the view.

Solid glass to fit opening or double pane patio doors. Good luck on your choice.

You might want to check to see if you need a permit to put in any kind of door or window before enclosing anything.

    Best to you.
