I bought a cabinet that filled half my house with the smell of cigarettes! It took me MONTHS to get rid of the smell. Then you have to wash with a rag dipped in a mild soap and water and wash the entire thing. I had to wash down the wood on the cabinet and the glass. It took about 4 washings. I would spray a rag with 409 and rub it down (I don't know if 409 will hurt leather but a light soapy water won't). Dried it really good. I even washed down the back. Once you get the smell out, you can treat the leather. I finally pulled it to the middle of the floor and sprinkled the entire thing with baking soda...the top, the inside and even had hubs push the cabinet back off the floor so I could splash underneath with baking soda. That smell has filtered into the very fabric of that sofa. Turn it on its face and wipe down every surface you can...bracing, cross bars, legs, etc. then sprinkle plenty of baking soda everywhere....especially close to padding. For a sofa you will probably have to move it to a garage and put it on a couple of drop clothes and do the work. It will have to sit out for some time. Some Febreze spraying will help. You might even want to pick up some of those car Febreze air fresheners and poke them down beneath the cushions. This will not be an easy task. You will think you have it fixed, but don't believe it! It will take time and lots of effort!

I recently removed mold from a leather coat using a mixture of water and alcohol. Just mix equal parts of each in a container, dip in and wring out a sponge and wipe it on. No need to rinse. It removed the mold and the odor so it is worth a try. If it doesn't, wash it with saddle soap.

I would start any furniture rehab with a bowl of diluted Oxyclean. I used to it clean the seat belts in my car, knocking it over by accident. By the time I got the shop vac out and plugged in to suck it up, it had soaked into the carpet. I used my water hose sprayer to spray a fine mist while vacuuming it up, making sure to rinse and vacuum well. The carpets had never been so clean and so I did the whole car, and it smelled wonderful for over a year. Just mix a batch of it, wipe down all the fabric and leather, then rinse and wipe down.

I got a leather cleaner soap and scrubbed the chair arms and back. The rag turned yellow from the cigarette smoke that settled on it. It took 3 washings but really made a huge difference.

This doesn't mention leather, but this stuff is amazing, it would be worth testing it on a small inconspicuous area of the sofa. I linked to Amazon, but you can buy it at WM for under two dollars. http://www.amazon.com/Dial-1231179-Renuzit-Neutralizer-Freshener/dp/B007IX9GXO/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1444185928&sr=1-1&keywords=Renuzit+odor+neutralizer

I like scrubbing bubbles! My dog loves to sit in my leather chair. It was dirty and oily from his fur. The bubbles got it all off with just a little bit of scrubbing with a soft cloth.
