Today is an exciting day in cyberspace because, Melody Smith started a new group called as a monthly themed post to share bloggers work. the First Month, Octobers theme is "Inspired by." My inspiration is family. This table has made it through my husband family for an untold time. I received her while cleaning out uncle's home after his passing. No one wanted her but, I could see her story was not over in our family yet.
Before
This is her before picture. As I stated earlier I do not know much about this table except is wasGrandma's. Which grandma or what generation I have no clue. As I was giving her a deep cleaning, I realized she is hand carved. Beneath the water marks, scratches and lose legs was a person who spent time with their two hands creating this table for someone special.
Painting! Waiting for it to dry is so hard...
I decided to use products that I had on hand. DecoArt makes wonderful paint that is a good price. I purchase black Chalky Paint for another project. When I attended Randolph Street Market First Midwest DIY Bloggers Roundup I received a Swag Bag with DecoArt Glossy Max Gray paint in my bag. This is a sponsored post since I received this product for free. Thank you, DecoArt! I also bought silver metallic paint for my demonstration at the event. This picture is one coat of the black and two coats of the gray.
Reflection?
Now to be honest I wasn't sure about the gloss finish in the jar but I love how the flat black, glossy gray and metallic silver complement each other on this piece. I fondly named this little table Grandma. I never met any of Prince Charmings Grandparents as they had passed away before I became part of the family.
After
Now Grandma is ready to be back at her place in our home. She will be in the foyer greeting all who enter our home. I find it interesting that she is now black, gray and silver yet she is brighter than her worn out brown. This is a pleasant surprise as I felt no connection to Grandma as she was before but, now I can appreciate her past and feel a sense of what this table might have meant to her yet we never even met.
