Just bought a new flat screen TV that works just fine.

As Clark Howard suggests, I didn't get the extended warranty. How long do I need to keep the box???

If you want to return it? I'd keep the box as long as the stores are accepting returns. I always buy the extended warranty, for an additional 20 dollars it is 3 years of peace of mind.

If extended warranty was just $20, I would have bought it, but it was $124. Your idea to keep the box for as long as store would accept return is a great idea. I don't think I'll need to return it though.

Where did you buy the TV? I bought mine in Best Buy and I remember paying an affordable price because I have 2 little ones who can throw anything at the TV screen. But if you do not have such a hostile atmosphere at home then a warranty is not needed also make sure you buy a good brand. Samsung is known for their good quality and they would be my fist choice.

Karen, go to SquareTrade and get a warranty there. They are usually cheaper and their service is excellent. I buy one from there every time I have something like that. Only one time so far have I needed to call in on the warranty, and they had me all fixed up in just a few days, no questions asked. http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/?ccode=bs_w...

Extended warranties almost NEVER make economic sense. Of all the electronics I have ever owned, I only bought one one time, and it was on a high-end Xerox printer that I knew would need a ton of maintenance which the warranty covered.
