I want to create the look of black steel windows on my shower enclosure. The current trim is antique brass. I cannot use any toxic chemicals or spray paints in my home. Does anyone have any ideas?? Peel and stick metal stripping??

Since you cannot use chemicals such as paint my only advice would be to go to a professional bathroom retailer in your area to see if that type of product is available.

Perhaps try an automotive store for the roll of stick on trim for cars?

Liquitex makes a water based spray paint. Kylon used to, but I cannot find any info on their web site so I'm assuming it's discontinued. Which is a shame as it was an excellent product. I have not used Liquitex's product, but I did find a video for you to see how the product works. It looks amazing. It's almost three times as much as standard spray paint, but since I prefer using water based products,if it works as well as Krylon's water based enamel did, it would be well worth it. Dick Blick has it on sale now for 40% off. I may have to drop by and get some when I'm in the city tomorrow. If I do, I'll let you know what I think of it. http://www.dickblick.com/products/liquitex-professional-spray-paint/

You can buy plastic window-inserts for VERY large windows such as sliding glass doors. We bought white ones some years ago, but I imagine you could paint them. Use your online search engine to find them.

Hi Angela! @Lauren Shaver -Bless'er House has an amazing tutorial on this. Just click on the link at the bottom of her post, it will take you to her site. There should be a link to her shower post in this one. I hope that helps! Cat http://www.hometalk.com/diy/-7342223

We did this in our shower. We used an epoxy to stick the metal straps to the door. You can find them at Home Depot in various widths for your application. I also painted it with Rustoleum oil rubbed bronze color. It came out gorgeous!

There is also a product that is used to create leaded glass look available, Might be too labor intensive tho.

@Jill Carpenter Thank you Jill. That may be out of my DIY level of expertise :)

For the brass, there are paints and primers made by Safecoat for the chemically sensitive. Greenbuildingsupply.com carries products that will work on metal. You could use frog tape and black glass paint on the outside the same size as your brass to give the illusion of window trim. Hope that helps!

Angela, No no. You would just use tape to lay out your grid then fill it. A bit time heavy but not difficult. It goes on like paint.
