Re-purposing dressers as outdoor decor+ the weather

Question

I like the idea of using an old dresser to make a potting bench or something like it for my gardening supplies. I have seen a lot of great projects using this idea. Do you move the piece indoors for the winter? Use weather proof paint? I am concerned about how long my project would last if I kept it outdoors year round. I have nowhere to put it inside for the winter. Any thoughts? Does anyone leave their's out all year? I live in NE Ohio.

thanks @Miriam I mine has held up and is sitting out covered in a foot of snow. If you use a really good paint and seal it it should be good!

I imagine if you used a quality exterior paint it should be fine.

A good quality paint works wonders. If your tending to scratch the surface, contact a local HVAC contractor and have them bend a steel cover out of metal that can be set on the top to be used as a work surface. Galvanized steel works great. Or go to local granite supply and get a stone cut to fit the top. Put some rollers on the bottom so it can be rolled around.

Thanks everyone. You confirmed what I was thinking, that anything liked that used outside has to be sealed and protected. I am looking forward to trying this idea. Will post pictures when I do.
