We found an old night stand and wanted to make it over for a kids room. First you should clean the furniture with TSP which is available at any hardware store.
Don't worry about sanding, paint with the Dixie Belle Mineral Paint which is perfect for kids rooms. NO VOC's and no Toxins! The color that will create this perfect kids room is Cobalt Blue and Mustard Yellow and then Midnight Sky for the eyes. You just use a damp brush and put on a thin coat. After about 15 minutes you can add a second coat if necessary. Then because you do not need wax with this paint you are done or you can use the "Easy Peasy" spray wax or the clear coat for extra durability. Which might be what you need for a kids room...LOL
