I am all into finding great storage solutions. Right now I am in a storage jag. So, I have been a busy little bee working on several projects. I finally got around to finishing this one up. (Although, as you can see I still need to unpack all of my thread and move it to the shelf). But this is for the wall, so I guess I can get a pass on that one. ;-)
For a while, I have been wanting a slat wall system on this knee wall, but I ended up making my own storage system. These are actually french cleats. I can add anything to this wall just by nailing/screwing/sticking it to a cleat. Plus, everything is moveable. And for those who are curious, this wall is 5' high and 15' wide. It's was slated to be the gear room for the home theater and security equipment, but I had other plans for it.

The wall is made from pine furring strips. You will need to cut them in half at a 45 degree angle.
Attach the cleats to the wall in a staggered pattern.
Level and space as you go. (If you plan to take on this project, please read the full article to get the specifics on this).
Putty, then primer and paint.
Attach accessories. (FYI - that is a cheap plastic towel hook which I am using for my scissors).
More accessories. My thread/craft glue organizer.
Spools of ribbon and embroidery supplies on rods. By the way, I love that I can expand these rods just by sliding the cleats over. This way, I can put as few or as many spools on here as I want.
I'm adding several of these to the wall. Those little hooks cost less than $1 for a pack, and can hold a lot of different items. This is a lot cheaper than slat wall accessories.

wow i Love this. this would also be great for an office space. we have gone wireless. and my husband has a desk in our den but im out in the dining rm. ive been looking for something for the Both of us. thanks for sharing
