Thrift Store Coasters Turned Front Door Decor

I must admit, I was thinking that I was stumped on those coasters. I was pretty sure I must have made Christy mad in order for her to have sent me these bad boys.

I laid in bed every night for a solid week trying to come up with something amazing. While at my own birthday party, I even threatened the guests that they would get no cake until they came up with a suggestion on what to make with these freaking coasters.

Let's just say a working robot, or a wooden toy train set was beyond my skillset.

So the other day, while I was looking over my Fall decorations, I wanted something new for my front door that had some pretty Fall colors in it.

That's when inspiration struck.

I started by spray painting the coasters with black chalkboard paint. Once that was dry, I painted 4 of the coasters in red, orange, green and yellow chalkpaint.

I then hot-glued all of the coasters onto some ribbon that I picked-up at Michaels.

I then wanted to write the letters F-A-L-L into the round chalkboard circles. You know how most girls are just born with that pretty girly handwriting? Well I wasn't ... I have the handwriting of a serial killer. That meant I had to beg my sister-in-law to use her pretty handwriting and do it for me.

I received my items from my lovely talented friend Christy from Confessions of a Serial-DIYer.

Here is what I received: Some straight-out-of-the-70's coasters (each the size of my head), and a dated metal planter.

For my second item, the planter, I decided to go with another fall project.

First, I spray painted it with Rustoleum's Primer in white.

I then stenciled on a fleur de lis on both sides.

Next I cut out a square out of a sheet of moss. I then glued on a faux pumpkin for a pop of color.
