Picture Pillows

A few years ago I had a surprise birthday party for my husband and suprised him with these pillows I made. I had family members email me pictures of the grandkids, and some with them holding a sign "Happy Birthday Grandpa". If you want a great idea for a gift for a grandmother or mother or whoever, I suggest this. I don't have a working Blog site, so I'll explain briefly how I did it. I printed pictures on to fabric using my ink jet printer and photo fabric. Cut out the squares for the pillow, and sewed around the edges with fancy thread and stitches. Then I put a zipper in one side so that I could sew all around the pillow with my self made piping. I hate hand work, so that's how I make my pillows. The zipper is close to the edge, so it does not show. If you do the zipper, make sure to cut that side large than the other side to allow for seam allowances on the zipper. Sew the piping on the side without the zipper. OPEN the zipper, then put the two fabric pieces right sides together and sew all the way around real close to the piping. You can turn it right side out by reaching through the zipper opening. Sorry I don't have step by step pictures!
I sewed pictures on with contrasting thread and fancy stitch patterns.
I wanted them to look like a bunch of pictures just thrown on a table, so I overlapped some.
The fabric I used for the pics was not real thick so I fused them on to muslin before putting them on the pillow fabric.
I used back ground fabric of leaves to portray a family tree sort of theme.
