Old Schoolhouse Door Makes Charming Hall Tree

It is Themed Furniture Makeover Day and our theme this month was black. It took me a while to figure out what I was going to do for this makeover, but then my stash of old doors came into mind. This old schoolhouse door to be exact.

The original brass knobs were taken off the doors, but it is still so amazing. Old school piece like this make my heart flutter.

I knew right away what I was going to make with this door because of its 12 window panes. There are 12 months in a year so this door would make a perfect hall tree!

I removed all the glass and plastic windows and then my husband cut thin wood to fit in each pane. I painted them with black chalkboard paint and we nailed them on the back of the door.

We added a bench to this door with left over wood, trim and legs we had in the garage.

I painted it all out in a pretty green color and distressed it.

I added the original "paper clip" back on the door to hold paper, mittens and hats.

You can see the entire makeover, the story of why the school is getting rid of their original doors and all the other black makeovers on my blog post here: http://www.mycreativedays.com/schoolhouse-door-makes-charming-hall-tree-themed-furniture-makeover/
