I'm buying a house that has awful green tile in the bathroom. Can you paint ceramic tile and what do you use? Also, the bath tub is the same color green, can you change the color of a bath tub?

I painted the tile behind my bathroom sink. The paint store said they did not recommend painting tile in bathrooms as it would be exposed to a lot of water. It stayed on for 12 years (we remodled or it would still be there.) I degreased the tile, painted on a binding primer, painted it then a couple coats of sealer. I don't think it will last on a shower wall or sink tops. I know you can have a cast tub re enameled but I don't know how that is done.

As Tonia said, you can paint tile. Personally I'd run with it and have some fun. I'd love to see a picture of it to get ideas. You might be surprised how well it could look with the right accent color.

Sorry ladies, I thought it was tile, it is not. It is fiber glass, the tub and the walls around it. I will post a pic. of it when I close on the house. I can use all the help I can get. Your right Becky, I think I will run with it, that is, if I can ever get it clean!

That might look great. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Becky, thank you so much, you are very kind. My husband and I built our "dream home" 15 yrs. ago, 2800 sq. ft., and now realize that it is way too much for us to take care of now that our children are grown. My new house is 1300 sq. ft. and a ranch. I have a lot of antiques that were our parents and will have to get rid of a lot of things but am also looking forward to redecorating this 1909 Victorian style house! I will post everything on here that I am doing because it's always good to have a lot of "eyes" to help!

@Janet chambers I know what you mean about a large home. Ours is over 3000 square feet with another 1500+ sq ft basement wood work shop. We built it with three bedroom suites (it's a Victorian Revival) and a small guest room, thinking our college age children would live at home and go to college in Omaha. Our son was deployed before we finished building and our daughter joined and left for boot camp just a couple months after we moved in. She's now married and a Mommy living on the west coast with her family. Our son is divorced. He and his son (he has custody) live with us. Son has his own bedroom, his son in the guest room, they share the bathroom and also use our daughter's suite as their living room. We hope to stay here for awhile after retirement to enjoy the fruits of our labor. It's still not finished inside, but we enjoy the work. I can't wait to see your real Victorian!

@You are very welcome Janet P. @Janet C, nursing is such a noble career choice. I admire you for that. I looked, but did not see your dolls on your profile page. I have seen that type before and they are amazingly real looking. I feel lucky that, with hard work, I can heal myself so to speak, with the right diet and exercise. I have a tendency to carry loved ones hardships on my own shoulders and the stress of that is hard on my health. Part of the reason is when I'm stressed I don't eat properly. As Janet P. knows, I lost my closest cousin to cancer earlier this month. Janet C, you are right in that there are so many things one can create to help them through life's ups and downs. I need to take more time to do just that. I brought home some unfinished projects of my cousins to finish for her. I was working on an afghan when I got the sad news from our daughter and have not picked it up since. I'll also finish some cross stitch by making them into ornaments to give to her son and his wife for their Christmas tree this year. It's sad she didn't get to finish them, but I think her son will be happy to have them. Bitter sweet.

Becky, I am so sorry for your loss and horrible news about others. I also have had more than my share of tragedy lately. I lost a brother in Aug. to colon ca, another brother who lives with me has liver and esophageal ca, and a friend of mine hung himself a couple of weeks ago. I try to follow my own advice, which is; 1.) Try not to worry over things you cannot change, 2.) You can not make someone do something they don't want to do. 3.) Find at least 15min. a day for yourself. And 4.) Do not judge but put yourself in another's place. And lastly 5.) Love other's as much as you can without giving away the joy in your own life. If you need a great on-line support group, go to mdjunction. I am on there a lot. Kindest regards, janet
