Catalog Christmas Angels

Christmas decorating can be fun for the whole family as well as inexpensive by recycling materials found around the house.
Catalog Angels celebrate simply.
Start with a thick catalog between 200-300 pages with a glued spine rather than stapled. A paperback book could be used as well if you tear off the cover.
Fold #1
Make a crisp fold lining up the outside edge of a page with the inside of the page at the spine as in Fold #1. In Fold bring the folded edge over to the spine again.
Fold # 2
In Fold # 3, fold up the part of the overhanging page so that it will be even with the bottom of the angel to be. Only a few hundred pages to go! It can keep little hands busy.
Fold # 3
Trace the finished folded body (should be triangular) onto some corrugated cardboard continuing the triangle an inch or so above the catalog/book to attach a head. I used a lid to trace my wing shape then pulled off the paper from the corrugated cardboard where the wings are for texture. One could leave intact as well.

I used some white paint across the wings. If you like glitter, sprinkle it on the wet paint. I like the multi-colors in the catalog pages as well but they could be sprayed white or gold and sprinkled with glitter as well.
Paint the wings white.
Hot glue the cardboard and wings to the completely folded catalog/book.
I weighted down after gluing.
I used wood slices for my symbolic heads but you could use gold/silver painted jar lids with angel faces cut from Christmas cards or photos of loved ones glued on.
The head glues to the little cardboard tab.
I like the Angels flat on the backside as they don't take up so much table/buffet space and makes for easier storage.
These are simple enough for kids but accurate folds are the secret and should be done neatly and crisply. Glue two back to back for Christmas trees also that can be sprayed green and glittered. Less money spent on decor and making memories with family can be the start of your best Christmas ever. Good luck and have fun!

I remember my grandmother doing this way back when. She painted the angels and glittered them. She did trees too. I love this. I'm not sure about catalogs I haven't had those in ages, but maybe some thick magazines like Vogue or Cosmo etc.
