I have a nice wood coffee table with a glass top. It looks outdated and the glass has scratched some over the years. Any ideas of a quick, easy fix?

Paint it a great color and use mirror paint to create an "shabby" mirror by spraying the underside.

You can chalk paint the wood and then spray paint the glass top based upon the color you decide for the wood.

Another idea would be to remove the glass, refinish the wood, then attach Hardyboard to the underside of the top and tile the areas where the glass once was.

Ooooo! This sound great for a nice wrought iron round table that has no glass. Well no top at all! where do you learn how to tile or do a mosaic Please?

Also, where do you buy the Hardyboy?

      Thank you!

What is Hardyboard? I have a coffee table and matching side table of wrought iron, in which the glass was broken. I wanted to replace the glass, but it would cost way too much. The tables are round. I am trying to think of a way to replace with something other than glass. Any ideas?

I wish I could. I don't have any 'saws' at home and even if I did, I would have to learn have to use.

Call the local glass store and see what a replacement piece would cost. Do a comparison of that with how much time you want to spend on using the other techniques and/or what yo;u really want the finished product to look like.

Thank you. I did consult a glass store. They cost was very high - much more than I originally paid for both tables. Same is true of plexiglass. I also tried Home Depot thinking I would just replace with wood, but they only do straight cuts and the tables are round. Thanks for your input.

Did you ever hear of a jig saw!

  • Em Hanson Em Hanson on Jan 31, 2017

Yes, I have heard of a jigsaw, but have never seen/or used one. Would that do the job if I bought a lengh of plywood?

Jay, Does the glass have to fit in anything like a frame or does it sit on top? I know I have seen pre-made round glass table tops. I am thinking either Walmart or Home Depot or Lowe's.

Sherry, I like the shabby mirror idea.

    It fits in a frame
