MamaSita on Nov 01, 2015IMO, yes. An attached garage always adds more value. I don't know about an in law suite as that might only interest a few buyers.Helpful Reply

Cristina Addie on Nov 01, 2015Adding an attached garage would make your home more attractive to buyers. A in law suite adds more square footage. So I am going to say yes to both adding value to your home.Helpful Reply

Tracy on Nov 01, 2015I just bought a house and I can say an inlaw suite would have been a major plus cause I don't need it for inlaws but I would have used it for a game room / den for having game nights and sports watching with friends without messing up the main houseHelpful Reply

Mar on Nov 01, 2015Not all home improvements add value to a home when it comes to selling it. However, adding sq footage to a home, installing attached garage, updating kitchens and bathrooms will add value.Helpful Reply

Tom Norman on Nov 01, 2015The garage. Also, make appointments for viewing and have bread baking to make the place smell like they want to live there. It works!Helpful Reply

Dave hulla on Nov 01, 2015Look around your area. Do most homes have a dbl. attached? If yes, then get ya one. I would rather have a dbl. detached with covered walk or trellis. A suite may bump into zoning trouble. A true suite should have a full kitchen, bath, and separate entrance. Rental unit?Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Nov 02, 2015Becky has a great suggestion but if you are unable to find one who you feel comfortable speaking with then I would go view model homes in your area. This is a great way to see what builders are doing and what trends could help you upgrade your home for resale value. Pat is also right because kitchens and bathrooms sell a home. If you are in an area where there are younger families moving in, then you need to make your home appeal to that market. However, if you live in an area where everyone else on the block has a garage (as Tom andDave suggest), then that is what you want to do. You have to do a little research and this is easily done by checking to see what homes have sold and use sites like zillow and trulia. good luck in deciding.Helpful Reply
