Lampshade help
I'm sharing the wall border plus the wall color as well (in the next few months I'm planning on adding panel planks on the bottom half of my walls) and the lamp itself (it would be awesome if these ideas came with pictures). And are there any tips on keeping them from getting filthy and dusty?

Susie Lee on Nov 01, 2015If they were mine, I'd add a black shade. In design, every room should have something black to anchor the eye. If you don't like that, perhaps a suede in a tan? I keep my shades clean by rolling a sticky lint roller over them. Works great and quick!Helpful Reply

KJB on Nov 01, 2015Your wall picture has more of a country/rustic appeal. Perhaps using a fabric that mimics a straw look but allows light to pass through giving it a warm touch. Good luck. 😊Helpful Reply

FRAN on Nov 01, 2015If the shade is in good condition you can buy "fabric" spray paint from Michael;s choose color you like from your border or you can scan the actual border photos and print on 8 X 10 fabric sheets in you printed, trim to the shape of your shade and apply, I'd use Tack It from Aileen (Michaels or Joann Fabric) it looks like white glue you paint the back of the fabric, let try and it creates a removal sticky pack similar to those stick on name tags, no commitment that way, another idea is to buy cross grain ribbon (you choose width and colors) and just add a touch of color to the existing shadeHelpful Reply

Nancy Gramm on Nov 01, 2015I follow a woman on Facebook, who makes custom lampshades. (She makes other fabulous decor items as well, but I'm trying to stay on point here.) Her name's Kathleen Mullaney from Seattle; you can Google her and see more of her designs but I've pulled a few from Pinterest for you. I've mostly chosen prints; something about your choice of border makes me think you might like them. She does solid colors as well, of course, and I'm not suggesting you have her do the work; I'm sure she's quite expensive; she only uses the best fabrics and trims. Hope you see something you like.Helpful Reply

Taffetal on Nov 01, 2015I'd go with a soft blue or leave it white - the simpler the better as the base of this lamp is special and the eye should go their in appreciation of it's detail. ie. no fancy patterns on the shade.Helpful Reply

Peppi on Nov 01, 2015i have decoupaged lampshades using paper napkins from dollar tree. they are beautiful when lit. the last two that i did, i used three (3) different patterns. i find ones that have designs that can be cut out and decoupaged them right on the shade. i think that would be beautiful in your room.Helpful Reply

Barbara Parsons on Nov 01, 2015I also knew someone who used neckties she purchased at Goodwill. She would up with a really fabulous silk shade. The "point" was allowed to hang from the bottom of the shade, then everything at the top was trimmed and covered in a kind of blanket bias tape.Helpful Reply

Sheryl J. Wykes on Nov 02, 2015My mother used to wall paper her old lampshades and they were beautiful! Choose a different theme but stay in the same color family. I think it would be lovely. Or you may want to use a small pattern wallpaper, again staying within the smae color theme. Just an idea to try.Helpful Reply

Catherine Bridges on Oct 08, 2016Looks like you have a Shabby Chic Cottage looking in the boarder and paint color. I would paint the lamp base in white or light mint green. Then take a sponge and cut out the form of a bird,. Once that is done prepare a small plate of two parts water to one part paint ( make the paint one shade darker than your shade)-dip your sponge in allowing it to drip completely then dab in a pattern. Another idea would be to use small weaved basket as your shade. Or take the shade covering off and weave a basket weave design with ribbon ( or ribbons) on the shade in a yellow, green or light blue. Please keep us updated and good luck.Helpful Reply
