If your doing the kitchen over and the cabinets are going in new places that uncover areas that do not have tiles. You can create a border with a complementary tile and then simply go all the way around the kitchen so it looks as though it was that way from the beginning.
Many times when tile cracks in kitchens and its no longer around. People simply place another new tile that complements the older then they remove more to create a pattern look.

Just how many are you thinking about removing and moving?
thank you . we will have most of the cabinets in the same areas,but we are downsizing our island and making a walkway about a 9 sq ft area around it instead of it being attached to the wall. i think i may have enough for that but may need to fill other areas and was hoping there was a solution to pulling up some of the existing tiles in a seperate entry and also using those. they are the same as the kitchen is now.
As Bob said, if they were installed correctly, it is almost impossible without microsurgery" and a month of Mondays...especially with the larger 16" tiles. Consider going with a complementary tile. Tim
the problem is the open floor plan.and 550 sq ft of the same flooring. i think im going to try a dremel tool and a putty knife and hope for the best.i appreciate everyones input.
