Decoupage techniques

I am doing up furniture with chalk paint, etc for a charity sale. I have loads of lovely pictures, wallpapers, etc..but, they seem to get ripples in them when I glue them onto the surfaces..This does not look good. What am I doing wrong. I have tried wiping with cloth, etc..nada! Is it the glue??

HI Janet, This was very helpful..the only thing I didn't do was dilute the glue 50% with water before putting on the paper. I will try that and see if it gets rid of the rippling. Thanks so much for this!

Wendy, I think your best bet is to use a spray adhesive. The less moisture the better when you are experiencing ripples in the paper.

Hi Becky...I would like to try that..I wonder where i can get it? I live in the UK. But that may be preferable..the white glue seems to cause ripples. Thanks

Hi Becky, Thanks for doing this...I have bought one today at B&Q (DIY shop) It is made by Bostick, who make all sorts of glues...so, let's hope it works... without ripples! I appreciate your help and will look at the link you found..Wendy

@Wendy, I think it's awesome you do this for charity. I have a large shed full of furniture I collected over the last five or so years that intended to start my own business with, but have recently decided I too would use it to help me help others using the profits I make. I don't need the money, but certainly enjoy bringing life back to old furniture. As for your fear, why not try it out on a scrap piece of wood first?

Hope the spry glue works. Little late here but we also have a scrapbook in tool called a "brayer" roller. It's a rubber roller. It's amazing how many projects it's been used on.
