DIY Rustic Floating Shelves

After the ongoing process of decorating my dining room, I knew I needed something to fill up my walls. I've been desiring floating shelves to display my accessories and dishes on. Nothing like having that open feeling on the wall that grasps the attention in the room.
I knew I wanted to go with a chunky wood shelf to match my rustic dining table. I just was not sure how simple i wanted to go with the design. I did a lot of pinterest browsing and fortunately came across this one design from a fellow blogger and I knew it was exactly what I wanted. The hubby and I easily built these shelves together with just a few short steps. Most importantly is the 45 degree angle base and the 20" distance between the top shelf and the bottom shelf. We chose 48" long shelves, but I originally wanted to go longer. The perk to these shelves they can be used anywhere and the length of the shelves can be the length of your choice.
Once we installed the shelves to the beams, I chose to stain them in a natural tone. I used dark wax and then gray washed the shelves. I love the perfectly natural shade and how rustic the shelves look. Once finished, then accessorize (the best part)
Here is the before of the wall. and below the after. What a difference a few shelves can make to a room.
