I dreamed of a having table large enough for his, mine, and others, but the cost was outrageous! With the help of my handy husband, we made it happen and for a fraction of the cost.
This table is sturdy enough to dance on and large enough to fit our family.
We love it!
We purchased six 10 foot boards for the top of the table and three 4x4's for the legs. Additional lumbar was used as a trip around the bottom, which was just used for looks.
We sanded the edges of the boards and stained it wIth Minwax Dark Walnut. We do not own fancy wood tools besides a sander and a circular saw, he used a hand tool to make the holes for the large bolts.
The table legs are held together with this bracket and bolt. I do not know the name of the bracket, I just shopped around until I found something that fit over the legs.
This is a picture of the bracket under the table, and the bolt that you see on the top of the table. This is holding the top of the table to the bottom portion of the table, it is attached to the leg and top of table.
Under the table we used a smaller piece of wood, placed every 15 inches which kept the table straight. When working with that long of a table top you need a lot of support to keep it straight.
I enjoy the rustic look of the bolts and metal hardware.
It fits the room beautifully and will be treasured for years to come.

You are so going to love living with this. My daughter & I made our dining room table and I wouldn't give it up for anything. I think everyone should make their own now.
