What the heck is this thing?

Question

Okay, I'm a thrift shopper, known for bringing home very unusual items.  Well, I just couldn't pass this up . . . for 25 cents.  Does anyone know what it is, it's use?  And I welcome any ideas and suggestions :)   It is 13 1/2 inches square and 3 inches deep.  The material seems to be an MDF body covered with a very smooth resin.  The holes are on the top and sides, the bottom (back?) is solid. Thanks.

That sure is an interesting item. I do not know what it is ,however I would paint it and use this as a piece of artwork. I think it would make a very unique piece.

Maybe you can use it as a bottle holder or for small pots if you like gardening.

This is a cat toy....you put balls or cat nip toys in the holes and the cats put their paws in there and try and get the toys. The balls roll around inside and intrigues the cat. Bought one for my daughter's cats.

Bottle storage for spices? There are tons of different sises and shapes available. Maybe small candles or a grouping of different height candles.. And yes to painting it. It is a cat toy. I like the glass cylinders for flowers too.

add a LED light (2 the back) and hang on ceiling or wall.. cool shadows ,, and - or knot or tie - loop like in latch hook rug,, thin scarves or lace in the holes and they would add a romantic feel.. I don't think I am explaining it rt i am more visual.. OR use.... like a base for a square wreath. loop garlin or plastic bags (remember the plastic bag wreaths on a coat hanger and they would paint it ? ) or fabric strips, or fleece material, lots and lots to make a fluffy low foot rest or put it on legs or stool feet. OR part of a scary monster costume if the noodles from the pool fit in that would be wild...

At first I thought maybe a wine bottle holder and you would store wine glasses on the top side where the hole doesn't go clear through the wood...BUT then why would they have holes in the sides cause you couldn't put a wine bottle in the front and another one in the side cause they wouldn't fit. And, I don't know why anybody would design something like that and only have space for 3 wine glasses. If you find out what it is for, please post the answer...I could easily loose sleep over this one!

YES...it's a cat box.....you put interesting items inside the holes and let the cats have a fun time trying to eat some meat that you put in. In Germany, it's a game they play with their cats called 'Meat Box'
