I know there is at least one person on HT that knows the answer. @Janet Pizaro I tried the link but it failed.

When I saw the Red bellied slider it sure looked like my turtle but I noted it was kind of orange/red and my turtle yellow. DUH. I do believe both @Bonny and @d fuhrman are correct. Thank you so much for your help.

We always called them box turtles. could be layman's version though.

Send these photos to your county or state extension agent. The website should have a contact e-mail address.

@Diane someone identified the pic below as a Box Turtle. So I still think the one I posted today is the yellow bellied slider. But thank you for posting.

It is a Slider, but are there red or orange marks on the plastron?
  • Sherrie Slaboda Sherrie Slaboda on Nov 19, 2015
@Victoria Howard I don't know what a plastron is. I also realize I need to take more and better pictures so they can be properly identified. I think I'm close to the answer. Thank you.

@Sherrie Slaboda I think it's part of the bottom shell? I asked my turtle person, she is better with Box turtles, but she knows it's a Slider of some type. Can you take a photo of the bottom of the shell? Please let me know what you find out!

@Victoria Howard I only saw the turtle that day & took two pics so I can't add anymore to this post. I did learn that I need to get more pics in the future and I will do so. I know I have had Box Turtles that were easily identified. I really enjoy visiting Hometalk because I learn so much.
