How do I keep wood floors from creeking?

House is nearly 100 years old..when we moved in we refinished the floor by sanding& coating it with polyurethane but the creeking is still happening...is there a easy fix??

    You might need to put in some braces from the bottom, cross-braces between the joists.

    I read somewhere that by putting baby powder or cornstarch in the crevices may help stop some creaking. I tried it before & it did help.

    Not really for s permanent fix. To have the floors correctly fixed is to go underneath and find the spot on the floor that is noisy and shim it until it stops. This takes two people... One finding the sqweeks and one shimming the floor. If you are carpeting the floor you can screw through the floor untill it pulls the floor tight. It isn't easy but you will be glad to spend the time.

    If your floor has 2 layers then you can sometimes put screws from under the floor to pull them to gather just remember not to use to long a screw , and use screws with a smooth shank on the top and not threads all of the way up .
