I have a forest green rug. This summer I had a lot of folks helping me paint the walls after a family member lived in the apartment for 12 years. Now I am living here and I am notice some white spots on the carpet. I can't afford to rip it out, so what is the next best thing?

Try putting some goo gone on the carpet and blot with a paper towel.

My solution to removing paint from carpet is labor intensive but worked well for me . Sitting on the floor , I used a small exacto type knife and scraped the paint off each carpet tuff , vacuuming frequently with a hand-held vacuum. Some areas required slicing in a comb-like action thru the fibers to break up patches. If you must , cut out only small fibers , NEVER cut the carpet backing. If you end up with some "baldinglike" spots, cut a few fibers from inconspicuous areas , near baseboards and glue them to the carpet base in thinner areas.

I agree with the second suggestion. By applying chemicals to a spot you risk the saturation of the area which might leave a stain of its own. Plus it won't assure you that you can remove the paint thoroughly anyway. It might dissolve the paint to a point where it leaks over to the areas it's touching already. Then you've got a bigger stain. Use a very sharp knife or blade such as an "exacto" and try scraping the area first, assuming the paint is completely dry. If you cannot remove it completely, try using a pair of cuticle sissors and gently cut the fibers out of the carpet, leaving as much "stump" as you can so that you won't have a bald spot. The next option is to find a permanent marker that is close to the color of the carpet as possible. It's dark green so if you can't match it, try a spot by gently dabbing the green and immediately adding a TOUCH of black. Do this in an inconspicuous spot first. Basically you aren't removing the paint but just "disguising" it but getting the spot darker rather than the light color of the fabric, will make it less obvious.

Rubbing alcohol always works for me...I would try it in an inconspicuous spot for colourfastness. Just pour some on a textured cloth and dab on the paint...you can scrub a bit, but try not to over do it.

Why not paint the white spots, with a forest green permanent marker?!

Try Goof Off, a product readily available at big box stores. Saturate a clean white cloth or a paper towel and let it sit on the stain. The cloth will keep the spot damp and allow the product to work. It may take a few tries. Just remember to BLOT the stain, don't rub. Rubbing will cause the rug fibers to fray and, of course, try it on an inconspicuous spot to make sure the rug is color safe.
