Icy Candle Jars

I wanted to make little wintery hostess gifts and just by gathering some basics from around the house, I made these icy candle jars.
All I needed for the candle jar was Epsom salts, school glue and, of course, a clean, dry recycled jar. I spread a thin layer of glue all over the jar and gently rolled it in the Epsom salts. Don't use too much glue or the coverage gets too thick and the candle light doesn't shine through. And don't worry if you goof...it's salt! It melts away in warm water and you can begin again!
It takes a bit for the glue to set up. Once all was dry, I used snippets of leftover ribbon and tied on a sprig of artificial evergreen. So simple, so pretty!

I love these Barbara. Have seen these before but never got around to making them. Then I saw your post this am and I just made 6. I'm wondering how long they take to dry. I took your advice and didn't paint on too much glue. Can you tell me in general how long it takes for them to be dry?

So these would be disposable gifts since they can't be washed without removing the epson salt?

Would Rice work as well as the Epsom Salt?

I will be happy to post the items I made. I don't have any from the party except on Facebook. I also made some live Christmas trees for the center pieces.

I really like using Epsom Salts. Some smart person needs to do "25 Things You Didn't Know You Can Do With Epsom Salts."

Exactly! It really is an underutilized product!
