DIY Miniature Suitcase Ornaments for Your #ChristmasTree

This past year has been a whirlwind of activity for us. We became full time RV'ers in April and spent quite a bit of the year in Maine, along the east coast, and now in Florida. While in Maine, I looked for a fun Christmas ornament that would represent our time there and never really could find something that truly fit. So, why not make my own?

I used my printer to create miniature photos of some of our favorite times in Maine and the East Coast and created a tiny vintage suitcase to display them on my Christmas tree!

I started this project with a small paper mache box, sandpaper and miniatures. To create the tiny photos for this tutorial, you can use either WORD or Powerpoint to load your selected photos onto one page and adjust them to the size you would like.

Begin by measuring 1 from the bottom of the box and using a craft knife, cutting the box along the marking to make the box 1 tall.

Cut two strips of sandpaper about 3.75 long by 1 wide to use as hinges. Use the craft knife to cut off the back side of the lid.

Use pieces of felt and scrapbooking paper to decorate the suitcase. (For more details on the process - see my web page).

Add your miniatures and tiny photos to the suitcase.

This pretty little ornament can be hung from your Christmas tree or displayed on a table. A great way to save and display your memories from your past year! For more details and the full tutorial, please see my web page.

For the hinge did you just glue the sandpaper on with like hi other glue and held it until it dried so keep that angle?

This was such a wonderful idea! Great work! We are going to be spending an extended length of time in an RV, any tips for doing minis in a camper?

So cute and GREAT for families with younger members to learn to embrace the years gone past! This reminds me of a New Years "game": in a small booklet, each year commemorate Jan. 1 by writing 5 sad things that happened in the past year, 5 great things that happened in the past year, and then every participant records a personal prediction for the year ahead. A fun tradition that evolves into an important document to help recall the meaningful moments of a couple's/family's/group of friend's life!!
