Can sun faded upholstery fabric be brought back to life?

Karin From B'ham on Nov 27, 2015Although I've never tried it, I'm intrigued by the videos I've seen where people have painted upholstered furniture with chalk-based paints. Even patterned fabrics! Intructional videos are on YouTube. The finished projects look amazing to the point that I'm pretty sure I'll try the technique someday. Search YouTube and google, "how to paint (chairs, sofa, upholstery..etc) with chalk-based paint." Post photos if you do it!Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Nov 27, 2015I saw on HT recently where there was a faded chair...white with an open vine/leaf pattern in a blue. They put what looked like a pinkish "wash" on the fabric...??? By the way, get those wide (2") blinds for your windows and turn them slightly up to deflect the sun but still let in light. We face due west and have never had anything fade in 45 years. I get those faux wood blinds (plastic) at Home Depot and have them cut to size. I do not use curtains.Helpful Reply

Elizabeth Dion on Nov 27, 2015I had a love seat which I recently painted with a beautiful Pewter Grey chalk paint. This was my first attempt at painting upholstery and I am thrilled with how it turned out. The loveseat was gold with a brocade pattern originally.Helpful Reply

861650 on Nov 27, 2015Check out, "Simply Spray Upholstery Paint." You can google it...lots of information and, videos on youtube. Advise you to read everything you can find on this paint and follow instruction to the letter. Personally, I would practice painting on a piece of fabric before applying to couch...This way, you can learn what NOT to do! LOL!Helpful Reply

Wanda sinnema on Nov 29, 2015not really, the sun ROTS many fabrics and breaks the fibers down. painting can be a short term solution.. long term would be to recover with a fabric "FADE RESISTANT" or a UV tint on the windows.. also helpHelpful Reply
