How to wrap tree trunks in xmas lights

Can anyone give me some tips on how to wrap tree trunks in xmas lights? I have lots of very tall thin trees without any low branches that i'd like to decorate however i'm not finding good information about how to accomplish this task. Also curious if i should be concerned about squirrels chewing on the wires as these trees are on a wooded lot near the house. Thx!

Keep the lights in one tight ball or wound on a tube since you will be going around and around. It keeps you from dragging them all over the place. Also you might consider just stringing the lights from tree trunk to tree trunk if they are rather close to each other. This would give you the effect of a closed in area. You will also need several extension cords with waterproof connections in between each tree if you do, indeed, wrap each trunk. Yes, squirrels can be a bother on these but I've never had a problem myself. I've learned if i feed the little guys, they leave my other stuff alone.
