How to Install a Kitchen Back Splash #DIY #Tiling
Every since my husband and I got out of college and bought our first home (that was 8 years ago) I have wanted a kitchen back splash. I LOVE how they look in kitchens and they make me so happy! In our first home, we had laminate counter tops with the little 3 inch lip that goes up and we couldn't replace the counter tops (we didn't have enough money) so I never got my back splash in that house. Then we rented for a few years and then finally we bought our current house. This is the project that I have been waiting and wanting to do. I knew that when we did it that I would have to pick out a design that goes well with our counter tops and ties in the colors of it but also the grays and browns in my decor. I found some stuff that I loved and we absolutely LOVE the result of it!
Here is the picture before, we have done a lot to our kitchen since then. Although the kitchen looks fine in this picture, there is no WOW factor in there. I personally think that there is definitely a wow factor now!
The first thing we did was take off the 3 inch tile that we had on it. I always hated that black tile, it was too masculine for me.
Once we patched holes and sanded down the wall, we started to put the tile onto the wall. I found some wavy ceramic tiles (they are so cool!) and then a fun mosaic tile to go in the middle. We did two rows on bottom and one on top. We didn't use the traditional cement adhesive for the tile, what we used was sooooo much quicker and easier!!
Here is the design on the back wall. It already brightens up the room!
We grouted it and then sealed and caulked it.
And that's it! It took awhile to do but the end result is AMAZING!! I also dyed my pendants lights for some added color :).
The before picture has nothing on this one!! Especially with the new dining table we built and the back splash!

Your new backsplash is great, I like the colors and the contrast with the rest of your kitchen. I am going to use your technique of changing the glass pendant lights. A brilliant idea and super easy to change the look of a room. Your kitchen looks fantastic!
