Everyone kicks their shoes off when they come into the narrow entry. Any suggestions for getting shoes off the floor? Not much floor space.

Get some milk crates from behind some restaurants, clean & scrub them well, Spray paint them color(s) that work with your house, hang them about 6 1/2 feet off the floor with the open side facing out, label them for each family member....add/hang more of your crafts from each crate ! No floor space used ! Perfect !
  • As stated above using crates would work nicely and so would wood boxes. HOwever, do not take them from behind restaurants or businesses because this is theft. Those crates cost money and you can find them cheap enough at the store. I would also think about shelving as an alternative too. good luck and it takes time to 'train' the kids to pick up their shoes.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30256424/ I have seen these used in various ways in hallways, entryways and even in bathrooms to store toilet tissue, etc. They hang on the wall and get the shoes off the floor, and they are inexpensive. They also provide some "shelf" space for keys, gloves, etc. on top. "

II saw a posting where someone hung a coat rack with hooks towards the bottom on the wall just tall enough for the shoes to hang on the hooks.

I had the same idea as Cheryl since your limited on floor space. But then to get them to hang 'em up might be another problem...

A narrow laundry hamper might work. A wicker one could be painted to match.

Depending on your wall space, how about mounting a board (or 2) to the wall and hang 'half baskets' (the kind that are flat on one side) in a row so that each family member could drop their shoes in their own basket? You can also hang each basket individually, but the mounted board allows you to put only a few holes in the wall. Extra baskets could be hung to hold gloves & scarves for winter or items that you need to remember to grab when walking out the door. You could hang a pretty tag on each basket with each persons name or label what you want it to hold. You could paint the baskets a decorative color or leave them natural. This will get things off the floor, but take up very little space in your entry.
