Cream bathroom decor advice

Question

I know it's bland to some, but I want to have a mostly all cream/white bathroom. I want it soft and feminine. I don't like many colors. I want to keep my ruffled white curtain and shower curtains. I just painted the walls SW Maison Blanch. I've been using cream accessories because I read that white will make the bone look dingy. My main questions are 1) what else would you add? (the only 'color' I'm open to really is blush pink) 2) on the wall beside the toilet I want to cover that hideous phone jack with some sort of pic or decor, any recommendations? 3) what style mirror frame should I use on the main mirror over the sink? Our bath is odd shaped so ill attach pics to try to help with suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I like it a lot. I would change the switch plate to a stainless steel or mirror one. Love the ruffle curtains, it sets a nice mood.

First, I like very much the room. Second, I love the mirror. I would not paint the wood in the counters or door frame. I know people like to paint the wood to lighten the room but I find natural wood will set things better and being in the south, paint doesn't hold up well in mine due to the moisture and humidity. I think the dark helps set off the color on the wall. I guess I wonder why a phone jack is the the bathroom? You have anice wall there. So youcould get a large piece to hang there that would cover the jack, something that couldbring in the cream and/or the wood color.

Personally I think you can just paint the walls a different color and then accessorize with color in your towels and carpets. I think if you change the mirror it will also give the bathroom a different look.

I honestly think that you have a great space. to me for some reason, i feel that your cabinets are the wrong color. i picture the cabinets white. i also think that the this room is screaming for iron fixtures. as far as the telephone jack...i would simply change the switch to chrome and cover it with another mirror. i think that it will bring the room together. Hi - at the side of your toilet and where the jack is - I would put some nice shelves up with perhaps some nice colour co-ordinated towels in two colours - something nice and bright to cheer the room up a bit and depending how many shelves you put up - perhaps have one to put some of your favourite body lotions and/or a small glass jar with 'Q' tips or something in that you use, cotton wool or whatever you like. Or, put a unit there. Have a look at these links and pictures they will give you some ideas:) I would paint the architraving so it is the same as your door so it blends in. And.. if you can manage it paint the surround of the bath and the sink unit and even perhaps if you are keeping it, the small corner unit. this will brighten the room up. I would also, if you are keeping the small unit, put that straight to the wall rather then it being on the corner and put the shelves above that, making sure they go at least to the 'jack' or just past it - so, if you put some towels on the shelves - they can cover up the jack. And... on the left hand wall as you look at that unit you've put in the corner - you could perhaps put some nice pictures - say two or three in a line going down the wall - not across it. Ok, here it goes............ I love your bath by the way. Martha Stewart came out with Bead-board wall paper. That might brighten up the walls in the back of the room. I would paint it as close to the sink color as possible. I like the idea of an unusual piece of furniture in there as well, something really pretty, eye catching, not too heavy. That should put you on the hunt for a while. As for the phone jack. Take off the face and poke the wires in and cover it over with a patch. Find a beautiful painting this time of the year and hang it over the jack or just do that! Forget it is there. I have a wreath in mine. Have fun!

Don't understand the paint advice, you could have gone with white walls. From your shower curtain I take it that you like ruffles and feminine decor you can add more similar touches because white has many shades and textures that you can add with accessories. If you go with an all white bathroom you need to tone down the wood color. Mirror you can frame, or remove to add a different shape such as oval with shelves or lighting around it. Select a theme and add pictures to the walls. you can go with an antique effect to keep the look soft.

We have the same situation (need to keep all the existing almond everything), but I also wanted to brighten things up, and take it as white as possible w/o making the almond colored toilet, sink, countertop, tub etc stick out like a sore thumb. 
 We decided on painting the beadboard and cabs in swiss coffee semi-gloss (valspar), which is a pretty warm white that blends with the almond, but adds a fresher brighter look. This is still in process so excuse all of the unfinished details, but this may work for you too :). We have a very awkward layout, but changing the colors seems to be pulling it all together. You have a lovely bathroom, it' definitely can be a gorgeous space with just a little tweaking. 
 I think painting out all of the wood would really brighten your space and give you the look you're going for.

Thank you for the response! I like the look your acheiving with your bathroom as well! I wold like if the wood could be painted, but that a no go with the other half! I've kind of gotten used to it now actually, but then again, I had to! The beadboard would be pretty in ours too if it weren't for the wood tone on the cabinets and tub surround. Hopefully I'll find a happy medium to finish it up soon! Thanks again!

I would go with shelving to hide the phone jack. then you could perhaps put something on the shelf directly in front of the outlet to conceal. picture frame etc? I uploaded how I made a grill vent for air fan less noticeable. I put gesso on cover and then painted with wall color. I bought an iron flush back wall basket and hung in front of the vent. I hated walking into the bathroom and first thing you saw was the vent. this is the winter version...made a summer one also. my upstairs bath is all almond fixtures. I embraced the cream color with matching cream accessories. towels, curtain and shower curtain but these things have lots of texture for interest.

We have an all white bathroom and when we bought the house I thought I'd love it, but four years later, I really don't It feels cold and sterile, even in the summer and the white with light grey marble flooring IS cold, even in summer. Since we have a separate shower from the bathtub, I can't even warm it up with a pretty shower curtain. What are color families that you like? Pinks? Reds? Blues? Greens? I would hide the phone jack with an attractive framed print (covered with glass to avoid damage). Vanity type objects for your vanity in a style and color that fit you personally. I think I'd look for a new shower curtain in your color preference, but keep the print small to avoid overwhelming a small space. If you like blues/greens they do add a natural element and will blend well with cream. I'd paint one wall a contrast color in a subtle hue that you like the best. Peach and cream work well together and it will add warmth to the bath. Fresh or dried eucalyptus branches arranged in a nice vase for your vanity will add a fresh scent to the room and incorporate the natural world. Most of this depends on your personal style and put things you love in there to help you smile in the morning! I do like the mirror, reflects light and helps to visually enlarge a small space. A pretty bath mat in your favorite color will take the 'blandness' out of the room. check out Pinterest for other ideas that you might like.

I would move the cabinet (angled in corner in front of toilet) and put it against the wall across from the toilet. Then I would make a narrow shelf unit to place along the wall where the plumbing & phone jack are. (Just long enough to put a toilet paper hanger on the end by the toilet.) Then I would disguise the plumbing and phone jack with toiletries and or towels/decorations. If I was going to do something with the wood, I would stain it darker for contrast. (Stain with the finish in it.) I would put in rose or yellow colored flower arrangements and decorations to make the rest of the room 'pop.'

@ M.H. - your more than welcome. I think it would help you if you were to measure the space to see what you have - shelves are not that really deep - if you look on Ikea at their 'LACK' shelves - they do different width sizes and check what they are and then see if they will fit on your walls and just have however many may fit - i.e. one above the other - it is just something that will make make your bathroom even more stylish if you put towels and/or something else on them. Glass ones don't 'stand out' as much as wooden ones so maybe you might prefer those? As far as painting the wood I totally understand :) And... it is great that you have your own colour choices :) Good luck with it and if you need any further advice/info or whatever, please don't hesitate to ask me/us :)

M.H. I forgot to say - you could also look at putting some shelves above your toilet? - look on the 2nd picture - because they're glass they seem to go back into the wall - if you know what I mean - they don't look so prominent. Just measure the spaces you have and see what you think :)

Yes darker, and maybe change out faucets, door knobs, towel rack, etc to Oil Rubbed Bronze? I know this won't work with your vision of a white bathroom, but maybe just work with what you have?

I have a pink tile bath vanity, and am working with it using a lot of black and gray to tone it down. I also want a pretty white bathroom, but until that is in the budget, I'm just working with what I have! :)

You need an accent color. Navy? Add navy trim ontop of the shower curtain, add navy rugs..think beyond the typical bathroom rugs.Maybe pick up the beige, navy and a third color? see pic. go with a bright pop of color, i.e. orange, turquoise, etc for the shower curtain, accessories. keep the mirror but get some color in there. also i would paint the little cabinet in the corner in whatever color you select to brighten up the space. It looks lonely sitting in the corner all by itself. Its sort of like an after thought.

just have large mirror framed. a beveled mirror molding (for want of a better description) or any simple frame will do since you already have a beautiful mirror in the room. If pink is your color, use accessories, perhaps painted furniture.Your shower curtain is feminine and nice, so blush pink should work.

If you're looking for other colours to add, I'd suggest a soft grey. Grey and white looks really elegant together without adding too much colour. There's nothing wrong with wanting an all white bathroom - if you look at Scandinavian design, the walls are usually white and their interiors are stunning. Pink in general can be difficult to work with (think bubblegum nightmare!) and it could be very difficult to get the right shade - it can look so different in daytime vs. nighttime, sunny vs cloudy days - you might be best to make some of your accessories blush pink rather than walls.

I think your mirror could definitely be bigger and I'd get something with some substantial framing around it - it seems from your pictures that the bathtub surround has some kind of paneling or wainscoting effect. I would try to mirror (lol! - no pun intended!) the woodwork that already exists in the bathroom - and go big with it! you have a lot of space on that wall, go for something big, ornate and french looking and in white (how do you feel about distressed? if you're up for it, it can add some wonderful texture to a monochrome scheme)- and it will compliment your curtains! Also frame out the mirror above the sink - it will really finish it off - you can easily do it with some trim from a diy store.

One last thing I'd suggest is to paint out your trim, vanity and bathtub surround in white. The dark wood looks very stark against all the white, and I say go all the way with your white dream! Good luck and don't forget to post some 'after' photos!

The good thing is, all you need to change this is one of two stand out pieces..you can change whenever the mood hits...I have done this, where you get everything neutral but then OOH, this color green, or even a crazy Poppy color, and I get just a few things (I love poppy's) so I got some material for covering my throw pillows, made a framed print by finding an awesome picture of (yes) poppy's, and because there was a mantle involved I got some glass hurricanes and put some bright candles in them..but when I got tired of it, I could completely change it for a small investment...
