Anchoring A Christmas Mantel With An Old Weathered Window Frame

When I decorate my mantel, I love to have a larger anchor, statement piece for the center, and then carefully add items up and around the sides. This year I chose an old weathered window frame that had no glass but still had the sill attached. See how this old window frame became my "Winter Wonderland" Christmas mantel.
Here is my consignment shop $10 window with attached sill and frame. I placed in the center of my mantel.
A large faux evergreen candle ring from a drug store gift section is my window wreath. I added a small snippet of buffalo check ribbon. The winter wonderland sign is perched on top of the window frame.
Now just gather your rustic winter items, some faux greenery and a country Santa.
Flameless candles, more faux greenery, a kitchen scale and lunchbox fill out the right side of the window.
Hand knit, knee socks become Christmas stockings in my Winter Wonderland.

Love the old items, especially the rusted light lantern. I've got an old railroad lantern that was my Mom's. I didn't know what I wanted to do with it. Clean the rust off and paint it?. But I think I'll leave it rusty and put a candle in it.

Love this! I also used an old window I purchased at an antique show. I paid only $50 dollars for it and didn't know what I would do with it but couldn't pass it up. I thought about making a headboard out of it and when considering my Christmas decorations, inspiration struck. I cleaned all the old paint off the glass, I dry brushed a light green color over the blue that was there. I also purchased window film and put it on the glass. I will leave it up after the holidays and just change the decor around the window.
